Charity Swims

Swim Miles for Smiles

People across Staffordshire and Cheshire are being urged to take to the pool for a charity swim next Saturday (13 October) at Brough Park Leisure Centre.

Launching in Leek, “Swim Miles for Smiles” is a nationwide initiative set up by Caudwell Children to get people active and is being supported by the Amateur Swimming Association and the English Federation of Disability Sport.

The swim looks to raise money for disabled children in the area and is set to raise hundreds of pounds for Caudwell Children, a charity that provides treatments, specialist equipment, therapies and dying wish holidays for disabled children.

A further swim will take place at Braunstone Leisure Centre, Leicester on Wednesday 21 November from 10am - 2pm and local clubs are being asked to get involved.

Any clubs or centres that would like to get involved should contact Caudwell Children on 01782 600812.

Sponsorship forms are available from Brough Park on 01538 373505 or from Caudwell Children, or you can create an online fundraising page with www.justgiving.com where Brough Park Swim Miles for Smiles is a registered event.

How's your butterfly? Swimathon in aid of your local children's hospice

Get in the swim this September to help raise much needed funds for children's hospices across the UK. The first ever 'How's your butterfly' swimathon launched by the Association of Children's Hospices has the support of Sharron Davies and Steve Parry (200m Butterfly Olympian) and is being sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland. You don't need to swim the butterfly stroke to take part but you may like to try a width or two. People are also encouraged to swim 39 widths or lengths to represent all operational children's hospices across the UK.

For a Butterfly Swimathon promotional pack containing swimathon literature, fundraising ideas and information about events being organised by all participating children's hospices, visit www.butterflyswim.co.uk or call 0845 634 2197.

Swimming4Giving 2007

Breast Cancer Campaign is looking for swimmers to go the distance in its annual Swimming4Giving challenge to help raise funds for breast cancer research throughout June.

The swim can be paced over the month and you choose the challenge distance so no matter what the ability there is something for everyone. This year the national event is in its ninth year and it is hoped that it will be even bigger and better to help the nearly 44,000 women and around 350 men who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year.

Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent research into breast cancer throughout the UK. The Charity currently funds 83 research projects worth over £10.2 million in 50 centres of excellence across the country.

Butterfly Swimathon October 2007

Dive in to celebrate 25 years of children’s hospice care

Join the Association of Children's Hospices this year for a very special butterfly swimathon raising money for children’s hospices throughout the UK. The theme is the butterfly which signifies the short, fragile but beautiful lives of the children cared for by children’s hospices (but don't worry you can swim any stroke you like). This year they are celebrating 25 years of children’s hospice care as the first ever children’s hospice, Helen House children's hospice, opened in Oxford in 1982. The event is kindly sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).

Celebrate with them by taking part in their Butterfly Swimathon this October and get sponsored to swim 25 widths or lengths of your local pool.

For a Butterfly Swimathon promotional pack containing swimathon literature and information about events being organised by all participating children's hospices, visit www.butterflyswim.co.uk <http://www.butterflyswim.co.uk> or call 0117 989 7820
