How did you get from Columbia to Swansea? I was born in Columbia and my family moved to Paraguay when I was 1, my mother is from there, my father is English. We moved to Spain when I was 4 and we would regularly go back to Paraguay. I decided to come to the UK to focus on my swimming and I moved in 2005 to specifically join the Swansea Performance Sprint Program.
Favourite event: 100m Freestyle. It is the ‘blue riband’ event in swimming. Everybody wants to watch that race.
Finest ever performance/Why: I’ve not swum my perfect race yet! Probably my best was my relay split at the European Championships in Eindhoven in March (48.36secs in the medley relay). It was the fastest I have ever been and came as a really big surprise. Also my relay swim at the World Championships in Melbourne last year as that swim came at a major event.
First senior international meet: European Short Course 2006 in Helsinki.
Role models: Ian Thorpe as I grew up watching him and he won it all. I am a huge basketball fan also so Michael Jordan too.
My aspirations are: To win an Olympic medal. I hope to use Beijing as an experience and then target London in 2012.
Tip for the top: Enjoy what you do. If you do you will perform.
Life after swimming: Not thought about that. I will swim until 2012. That is my focus.
Music: I like everything
If I wasn’t a swimmer I would be a: Basketball player. I’ve very tall so would love to play in the NBA.
Football, Cricket or Rugby: Football. I follow Barcelona although I have never had a chance to actually watch them play.
Describe yourself in three words: Laid back / Relaxed / Honest
Would most like to meet: Queen. She is the most important person you could meet.
Most prized possession: My family. Being in the UK I only get to see them maybe twice a year.
Biggest influence on career: Probably location. I’ve spent all of my life living near the sea, Columbia, Paraguay and Tenerife, which are all very hot so I would be in the water a lot just to cool down.
Sporting relations: My granddad was a motor cycling racer
