Favourite event: 200m Freestyle. It’s the faster than the 400m Freestyle. I have achieved more at this distance also.
Finest ever performance/Why: Competing in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay at the Commonwealth Games for Scotland where we collected the silver medal. We knew we had a good team but to nearly win has a surprise. I have fond memories of that race. Individually, I won a silver medal at the World University Games last summer (07). It was my only individual swim over the past two and a half years and was a big time drop for me. I ended the 2007 as GB number 2 over 200m Freestyle, and subsequently qualified to compete individually at the World Short Course Championships in Manchester.
First senior international meet: Commonwealth Games 2006 for Scotland.
Role models: Gregor Tait. He is such a model professional and carries himself really well. I also look up to American 200/400Fr swimmer Peter Vanderkaay. I went to train with him at Club Wolverine a few years ago and his attitude is spot on.
My aspirations are: Now I have qualified as part of the 4x2FR for Beijing, I want to get my times down to the 1.47min mark which will help the team win a medal. It is possible.
Tip for the top: Respect your coach, be prepared and work hard.
Life after swimming: Would like to stay in Scotland, but not sure what job I would go for.
Music: All sorts, most things.
If I wasn’t a swimmer I would be a: I played squash to county level while I was younger so may of gone in that direction. I gave it up as I was better in the pool.
Football, Cricket or Rugby: Rugby. I went to Millfield School where rugby is very important. I do support Watford though (I avoided being a glory hunter).
Describe yourself in three words: Determined / Ambitious / Relaxed
Would most like to meet: Peter Griffin, in Family Guy. He is just such a great character.
Most prized possession: My Commonwealth Games Silver medal, which is hanging in my room.
Biggest influence on career: My sister Sam. She was the one who dragged me out of bed to go training.
Sporting relations: Sister, Sam Hunter. She is a former Scottish record holder over 400IM.
