GENERAL INFORMATION

Favourite event: 200m Freestyle. It is so exciting and combines both speed and endurance.

Finest ever performance/why: Commonwealth Games 2006, 200m Freestyle. I simply did not expect it. It was also the first race of the meet and to get off to a winning start hopefully encouraged the rest of the Scottish team.

First senior international meet: I made my debut at the Olympics in Athens (2004). We just missed a medal coming 5th.

Role models: Not really idolise anyone, although people that simply do remarkable things like Michael Phelps are quite inspiring.

My aspirations are: To win an Olympic medal, and than look forward to 2012. Would love to compete in London.

Tip for the top: Enjoy what you do and have fun.

Life after swimming: With my interest in politics I would like to go in that direction. I fancy the Minister of Sport role at some point.

Music: Like the Kooks, but lots of things rock, indie, bit of pop.

If I wasn’t a swimmer I would be a: A different sport. Probably athletics as I ran a lot while at school.

Football, Cricket or Rugby: Rugby. It shows more grit and determination.

Describe yourself in three words: Determined / Individual / Girly

Would most like to meet: Nelson Mandela. What he did was amazing, a role model for millions of people.

Most prized possession: My house. I bought it with the help of my parents. I’ve had it for just under a year now.

Biggest influence on career: I am really supported by my family. Knowing that they swam also really kept me going.

Sporting relations: Both my parents swam for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games, and my uncle Alan won a relay medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
