the asa Level 2 Award in Aqua Fit

This course provides instructors with the skills to deliver safe, effective, quality balanced, enjoyable Aqua Fit programmes and to evaluate the effectiveness of an Aqua Exercise to Music group session.  The course delivery is based on the flexible ‘blended learning’ method, which combines advanced home study and a number of practical workshops which will build on the core skills and qualifications you have already achieved in exercise & fitness at Level 2 (see entry requirements below).

Description:
Also known as aqua aerobics, Aqua Fit is an aerobics session in the pool that can maintain and improve stamina, strength and suppleness as well as increase cardiovascular fitness.

Duration : 3 days

Entry Requirements:
- You must hold a relevant Level 2 fitness qualification from a recognised awarding body e.g. OCR, CYQ, AIQ, etc which is listed on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF)

Ideally be a Member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)

If you hold an existing asa Aqua Fit award without a formal Level 2 exercise & fitness qualification then you may gain entry to this course however you will not be able to gain REPs membership registration or REPs CPD points through achievement of this award alone

You should have some experience of attending aqua exercise classes

Level 2 Dry Fitness Instructors not holding Exercise to Music qualification need to attend a five hour Music & choreography skills workshop

Course Content:
- Aquatic exercise and fitness training principles
- Benefits & properties of water as an exercise medium
- Differences between dry land and water based training
- Types of exercise to use in water
- How to plan, instruct and evaluate an Aqua Fit training session
- Screening & exercise safety in the aquatic environment
- Music & choreography skills workshop (exemptions will apply to exercise to music instructors)
- Practical sessions in a swimming pool environment

Assessment:
- Produce original pre requisite certificate of qualification at Level 2 in exercise & fitness
- Complete tasks and assignments as directed
-Produce a comprehensive session plan relating to the appropriate exercise discipline 
- Plan, prepare and teach a practical session
- Carry out a self evaluation of your teaching skills
- Create an action plan for your continued professional development
- Produce evidence of CPR competency/First Aid certificate (achieved within the last 2 years). Please note that this is not taught within the course therefore successful achievement of the award will not be complete without this evidence
