MAIN NEWS

Close encounters – British water polo championships

The British Water Polo Championship finals could hardly have been closer with City of Manchester winning the women’s title on penalties and only the width of a post securing a single-goal victory for the Lancaster men. Sharon Rose reports from Manchester Aquatics Centre.

National performance director Nick Hume thought this year’s British water polo finals were some of the best competitive games he had seen for a number of years – and they could have gone either way. Standards were high across the tournament, which was very pleasing for Hume, and the excellent games were a strange counterpoint to the funding discussions about the sport taking place at the same venue.
