What the NPTS means for Learn to Swim Providers

The ASA believes the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) is the syllabus all pool providers should be using to deliver their learn to swim lessons. The ASA urges parents to look for pools using the NPTS when choosing swimming lessons for their children and reinforces this message in our media and marketing work.

Consistency in Delivery & Assessment

The NPTS syllabus ensures consistency in delivery and assessment by giving teachers the expected outcomes for each of the 10 stages.  All outcomes should be achieved in order for the swimmer to progress onto the next stage.

But far from being rigid, the NPTS syllabus gives teachers the ability to add their own imagination and initiatives to the framework and come up with fun ways to reach the outcomes.
