GB’s Olympic medallists have joined with the asa to launch a new ‘Go Swim!’ website section to encourage people to take the plunge and visit their local pool or club.
the asa (the national governing body concerned with every element of swimming) has been receiving queries from people who have been inspired by the success of the GB team at the Olympics and who want to know how they can learn to swim or return to the sport.
Now by clicking on the Go Swim! tab at www.britishswimming.org new or returning swimmers will find all the information they need to make sure they can achieve their personal goals - whether that is enjoying swimming for fun or wanting to train for 2012.
Go Swim! signposts visitors to information on how they can learn to swim, how they can return to swimming or join a club. It also details how to find out what’s on in your local pool and explains the benefits of swimming.
Go Swim! also features inspirational quotes from Great Britain’s Olympic medallists, including gold medallists Duncan Goodhew (100m breaststroke 1980) and Rebecca Adlington (400m and 800m Freestyle 2008).
Goodhew said: “Like so many swimmers, every time I get into the pool I have to confess to be slightly awe-struck. In the pool you can escape the real world and enjoy this exciting and liberating experience. I hope the Go Swim website - along with the asa’s other initiatives - will encourage people to go down to their local pool.”
And Adlington added: “Swimming is such a great sport! If you get involved in swimming amazing things can happen.”
The asa is committed to giving everyone the opportunity to learn to swim and have the opportunity to enjoy swimming for health and fun, as well as achieving gold medal success.
