Taking place on Thursday 4th March 2010, the third ASA Swimming Teaching Conference will be held at the Heritage Motor Museum in Warwickshire.

The conference is open to all swimming teachers but is particularly aimed at swimming teachers and co-ordinators working on the delivery and improvement of school swimming.

Marc had his left leg amputated because of cancer when he was just 17-years-old but was still able to fulfill his dream of being the best that he could be and just 18 months after he finished his chemotherapy he was selected to represent Great Britain.

He subsequently competed at European & World Championships and Paralympic Games. In his 17 years of competition he won a staggering 12 Paralympic medals from 5 Games, 4 of those medals being gold. Marc also won a further 21 medals from European and World Championships.

There will also be a range of informative and inspirational workshops including:

Using different teaching styles for school swimming - focuses on the 4 strands of the National Curriculum and how to use different teaching styles that can be adopted to improve school swimming.

Effective school swimming - looking at the programming, delivery and monitoring of swimming programmes within school swimming.

Teaching swimmers with disability/challenging behaviour - explains the conditions, syndromes and disorders and gives strategies for managing the behaviour of a swimming teaching environment.

Kim Chapman Swimming School in Basingstoke has become the first swim school to gain swim21 accreditation.

swim21 accreditation is the ASA’s 'quality mark'.  It is about creating the best possible swimming experience for all and raising the quality of swimming provision across all areas.

Kim Chapman Swimming School caters for swimmers from pre-school age through to pre-competition as well as adult beginner and improver lessons and fitness sessions.

Swim school owner Kim Chapman said; “I am passionate that anyone who runs a swimming school should aim to work towards the accreditation of swim21 because it is such a great tool to self assess your programme and show you the areas you need to improve upon.

“It also keeps you on your toes in ensuring you are keeping up to date, being fair to your employees and enabling you to deliver a fantastic service to your clients. I inform my clients that swim21 is extremely similar to Ofsted – so when they see you have that accreditation they know how hard you have worked to achieve that accreditation.”

Kim was also quick to praise the team who work with her and have been vital in gaining this accreditation; “I have a great team of teachers and office ladies who have over the years helped the swim school achieve and maintain our high standards. We are more like a family than work colleagues.

“We also have a lovely group of young water assistants who provide an invaluable service in the water to our Level 2 teachers.”

swim21 has recently been re-launched to include three strands:
• swim21 Learn to Swim Accreditation – for anyone offering a learn to swim programme who is not an ASA affiliated club e.g. swim schools, leisure operators, local authorities
• swim21 School Swimming Accreditation – for organisations running a school swimming programme
• swim21 Club Accreditation – specifically designed for ASA clubs.
